The efficacy and function of eyebright

[Alias] Xinmutiquju (Tibetan name).

[Source] It is the whole herb of Eyebright grass of the Scrophulariaceae family. Harvest from July to August.

[Original form] Annual herb, 10 to 20 cm high. The stem is erect, rarely branched, with scattered white slightly curly hairs mixed with a few glandular hairs. Leaves are opposite, obovate to oblong-rhombus, obtuse at apex, cuneate at base, with 2 to 4 obtuse or pointed teeth on each side, densely covered with short glandular hairs. The spike inflorescence is terminal, with densely packed flowers and leaf-like bracts; the corolla is 2-lipped, pale yellowish white, with the upper lip 2-lobed and the lower lip 3-lobed, with a slight notch at the tip. Capsule oblong, nearly as long as persistent calyx.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides and in grass in fields.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, relieves restlessness and promotes diuresis. Treats fever, thirst, headache, and difficulty urinating.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian.
