[Source] It is the seeds of Peganum harmala, a plant of the Tribulus family. Harvest when ripe.

[Chemical composition] The seeds contain 3.92% bioalkali, 6.4-7.0%, mainly halamine and hamelin. Others include about 0.46% anthocyanin, tetrahydrohalamine, deoxyanthocyanin, etc.

【Pharmacological action】 ①Effect on the central nervous system

【Properties and flavors】 ① "Xinjiang Chinese Herbal Medicine Handbook": "Toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Treats cough, difficulty urinating, numbness of limbs, and joint pain.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: grind into powder, 2-4 fen; or extract the oil. For external use: apply oil.

[Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of palpitations, hysteria, and numbness of the limbs: Take camel thorn seed oil orally, 1 to 3 ml per day. (Selected Chinese Herbal Medicines from Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai)

[Clinical Application] Used to treat gastric cancer: Grind camel thorn seeds into powder and take 2 to 3 times a day, 2 to 4 grams each time. A total of 8 cases were treated, including 3 cases of gastric fundus and cardia cancer and 5 cases of gastric cancer. After taking the medicine, 6 cases had increased food intake (2 cases of gastric fundus and cardia cancer, 4 cases of gastric cancer), 2 cases had no change (1 case of cardia cancer, 1 case of gastric cancer); 3 cases had relieved upper abdominal pain (gastric cancer). 5 cases were followed up for 2 to 9 months, and 3 cases are still alive, 1 case died, and 1 case was lost after 2 months of follow-up. This medicine is toxic and the dosage must be controlled. Except for varying degrees of dizziness and nausea after taking the medicine, no obvious changes were found in the liver, kidney, heart, and blood count.
