[Original form] Boxwood is an evergreen shrub or small tree with a plant height of 3-8m. Branchlets nearly quadrangular. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is about 1m long; leaf blade is thick leathery, obovate, oblong to oblong, 3-6cm long, 2-3cm wide, obtuse at apex, finely serrated at edge, cuneate or nearly circular at base, dark green above, light green below. The cymes are axillary, with a peduncle 2.5-3.5cm long, one to two times dichotomously branched, with 5-12 flowers on each branch, white-green in color, in fours; the disk is hypertrophic. The capsule is oblate, about 1 cm in diameter, light red, with 4 shallow grooves; the fruit pedicel is quadrangular. Seeds brown with orange-red aril. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in sunny places with moist soil or in garden cultivation.

[Cultivation] Biological characteristics: It prefers a mild and humid climate and is cold-resistant. It is best cultivated in well-drained and fertile loam.

[Chemical composition] The root bark contains euojaponine A, C, D, F, G, I, J, K, L, and M. The fruit contains euojaponine esters (ejap) 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, and 14.

【Meridian】 Liver meridian

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation; eliminate rheumatism. Mainly used for irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, rheumatic pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g.
