[Alias] Dog grape root, mosaic bean root (Jilin Traditional Chinese Medicine Handbook), mountain flower root, Guangguang leaf root (Shandong Traditional Chinese Medicine).

[Source] It is the rhizome of the plant Batryta of the Menispermaceae family. Dig up the seeds from April to May or from August to October, remove the remaining stems, fibrous roots and soil, and dry them in the sun.

[Habitat distribution] Produced in Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan and other places.

[Properties] The dried rhizome is cylindrical (Sichuan products are split in half and are semicircular strips), 30 to 50 cm long, 1 to 5 cm in diameter, often twisted, with sparse fine roots, fine root marks or bud marks, with remnants of the above-ground stem at the top, with longitudinal wrinkles, and sparse lenticels. The surface is brownish yellow to brownish black (grayish white or grayish brown after the rough skin is scraped off), the cork is easy to peel off, and the inside is light yellow. The broken surface is flat and fibrous; the xylem is dark yellow and arranged in bundles, usually 8 to 15 or as many as 18 bundles, radiating like wheels; the pith is cottony white. It has no smell and tastes very bitter. The best ones are those with long rhizomes, yellow outside and white inside, and no fibrous roots.

[Chemical composition] The rhizome of Japanese bat kudzu contains the bioalkalis terpenoids, terpenoid alcohol, terpenoid glycol, corydaline, stephania glabra, stephania glabra, tetrandrine, and N-demethyltetrandrine.

【Properties and flavors】 ① "Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica": "bitter and pungent, cold in nature, non-toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and clear heat, regulate qi and eliminate dampness. Treat tonsillitis, pharyngitis, rheumatism, numbness, edema, athlete's foot, dysentery, enteritis, stomachache and abdominal distension.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 3 qian.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat dysentery and enteritis: 50g to 15g of Pueraria lobata root, decocted in water orally: or use 50g of Pueraria lobata root and 30g of Cynanchum wilfordii root, decocted in water orally. (Commonly used herbal medicines among Zhejiang folks)

[Clinical application] Treatment of tonsillitis and pharyngitis: Take 2.5 kg each of Pueraria lobata and Bidens pilosa, grind them into powder and sieve them to make extract tablets, each tablet is 0.5 g. Take 2 to 4 tablets each time, 3 times a day. 16 cases of tonsillitis and 4 cases of pharyngitis were treated. Except for 2 cases with high fever who were given antipyretics, no other drugs were used. The treatment course ranged from 2 to 5 days, with an average of 3.15 days, and all patients recovered.
