[Source] Medicinal material source: leaves, leaf buds or stem bark of the Poaceae plant Pseudostellaria baicalensis.

[Original form] The plant of the pole bamboo is woody and tree-like. The pole is 7-10m high, 4-5.5cm in diameter, with a slightly erect tail, straight lower part, and internodes about 30cm long. When young, it is thinly covered with white wax powder or with rough and stiff hairs, with thick culm walls and several internodes at the base with yellow-green longitudinal stripes; the nodes are slightly raised, and several nodes at the base of the culm are above and below the sheath ring, each ring with a circle of gray-white silky hairs; the branches often start from the first node at the base of the culm, persist, and grow in clusters of several or even many branches, with 3 of the middle branches being relatively thick and long. The sheaths fall off early; the auricles are unequal, wavy, and the edges are covered with wavy fine hairs. The leaf sheath is usually glabrous on the dorsal surface, with short cilia on the margin; the leaf auricles are obovate or obovate-elliptical; the ligule is 0.5mm high; the leaf blades are linear-lanceolate, usually 10-15cm long and 1-1.5cm wide, glabrous on the upper surface, densely covered with short soft hairs on the lower surface, with acuminate apex and nearly rounded or broadly cuneate base. Pseudospikelets are clustered in several pieces at each node of the branch, linear, 2-5cm long, and each spikelet contains 5-10 flowers; there is only one glume, 6mm long, glabrous, with 9 veins; the lemma is oblong-lanceolate, 12-14mm long, glabrous, with 13-15 veins; the palea and lemma are nearly equal in length or slightly shorter, with 2 ridges, and 6 veins between the ridges; the scales are 3, unequal, with long cilia on the edges, the front 2 are oblique, 2.7mm long, and the rear one is slightly larger; the filaments are short, and the anthers are 5mm long; the ovary is oblong, about 1mm long, with short stiff hairs at the apex, the style is 1mm long and covered with short stiff hairs, and the stigmas are 3, 3mm long and covered with hairs. When young, the caryopsis is broadly ovoid, 1.5 mm long, with short stiff hairs at the tip and remnant style and stigma.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on both sides of rivers and streams and near villages, commonly cultivated.
