[Original form] Mushroom tree is an evergreen tree, 20m high. The buds are hairless in the first year and turn brown after drying. Leaves are alternate, leathery; petioles are about 1 cm long and glabrous; stipules fall off early; leaves are obovate-oblong, 7-13 cm long, 3-4.5 cm wide, with short acute apex, sometimes slightly obtuse, base cuneate, with blunt serrations on the edges, dark green above, slightly shiny after drying, light green below, glabrous, with about 7 pairs of lateral veins, raised on both the upper and lower surfaces. The male flowers form short spikes, about 1 cm long, often arranged in panicles; the stamens are numerous, nearly sessile, and the anthers are obovate; the female flowers form capitula, solitary or arranged in panicles, with 15-26 flowers, and the inflorescence stalk is 2-4 cm long; the calyx tube is fused to the ovary, and the calyx teeth are papillate; the ovary is inferior, 2-chambered, hidden in the inflorescence axis, with 2 styles, 3-4 mm long, the tip curved outwards, and covered with soft hairs. The infructescence is nearly spherical, with a diameter of 1.7-2.8cm; there are many seeds, which are brown and shiny.
