[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the Saururaceae plant.

[Original morphology] Perennial creeping glabrous herb with white bracts and naked capsules, up to 70 cm long. Leaves are alternate, papery, without glandular dots; petiole is shorter than or equal to leaf blade length; leaf blade is reniform-cordate or broadly ovate-reniform, 4-8cm long, 4-10cm wide, with broad mucronate at apex, 2 deep ears at base, entire, 5-7 basal veins, and obvious reticulate veins. Stipules membranous, about 2 cm long, base enlarged and clasping. The raceme is opposite to the leaves, and the inflorescence stalk is slightly longer than or equal to the length of the inflorescence; the flowers have obovate-oblong or oblanceolate bracts below, about 3mm long, the lowest 3-4 are very large, white, leaf-like, 1.2-1.8cm long, 0.8-1.2cm wide, without perianth; 6 stamens, anthers oblong, longitudinally fissured, slightly shorter than filaments; ovary inferior, obconical, with 4 carpels, style linear, curved outwards but not curled. The fruit contains many seeds. The flowering period is from February to June, and the fruiting period is from June to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in the shade of hillsides, roadsides and ditches.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; slightly cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; promotes diuresis. Mainly used for lung abscess; damp heat in the lower part of the body; leucorrhea; dysuria; sores, boils, swelling and infection

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g of fresh product; 9g of dried product, or stewed with meat. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
