[Source] Medicinal material source: The rhizome of the Glechoma longituba plant of the Glechoma family.

[Original form] A terrestrial medium-sized fern with a plant height of 1-1.5m. The rhizome is cylindrical, horizontal, and covered with dark brown scales. The petiole is round below, flat above, with grooves, and covered with wart-like protrusions at the base; the leaves are thick and papery, gray-green below, and have a pair of deeply bipinnate pinnae growing on both sides of the densely scaly terminal bud, or the terminal bud develops into the main axis in the second year, and the main axis regenerates the terminal bud, thus forming multiple pairs of pinnae. Pinnae ovate-oblong, 35-60cm long, up to 25cm wide in the middle, and gradually pointed at the apex; pinnae 20-30 pairs, almost sessile, alternate, the middle one up to 20cm long, narrowly lanceolate, gradually pointed toward the apex, pinnatifid; lobes 25-40 pairs, alternate, obliquely spreading upward, 7-13mm long, about 2mm wide, the lower lobe at the base about 5mm long, lanceolate, entire, involute after drying; lateral veins forked, sori round, composed of 4-5 sporangia, arranged in a row on each side of the main vein.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in the shade and wet places of valleys at an altitude of 500-2500m.

【Properties】 1. Identification of properties: The rhizome is relatively straight, 4-6mm in diameter, smooth in surface, dark brown, with large bright brown scales and many black fibrous roots. It is hard, easy to break, with an uneven cross section, brown cortex and a light yellow pith in the center. Slight smell, light taste with a slightly spicy aftertaste.

【Nature and flavor】 slightly bitter; astringent; cool

【Functions and indications】Promoting qi circulation; stopping bleeding; setting bones. Mainly used for stomach pain, fractures and epistaxis

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, grind into powder, and apply into nose; or mix and apply on the nose.
