[Original morphology] Croton longifolia is an annual upright herb, 30-80cm tall. Stems and branches densely covered with slightly rough and long hairs. Simple leaves are alternate and almost sessile; stipules are extremely small, awl-shaped, and easy to fall off; leaf blades are narrowly elliptic-linear or oblong with wide middle part, 3-10cm long, 5-20cm wide, acute at apex with a tuft of soft hairs, cuneate at base with small dimples above, midrib with hairs, densely covered with appressed silky hairs beneath, and lateral veins inconspicuous. The racemes are terminal or axillary, often shortened to a head, with 2-8 flowers; 2 bracteoles, lanceolate, covered with rough and spreading long hairs; pedicels are stout; calyx is 2-3cm long, 5-parted, the upper lobes are wider, oblanceolate, the lower lobes are lanceolate, and the outer center is densely covered with brown and spreading long stiff hairs; the corolla is paternal, light yellow, hidden in the calyx, the standard petal is obovate, with 2 callose appendages at the base, short claws covered with hairs, the wing petals are lanceolate-oblong, and the keel petal has a long beak; 10 stamens, anthers are heteromorphic; ovary is glabrous. The pod is oval-cylindrical, about 15 mm long, black when ripe, enclosed in the calyx, and contains 20-30 seeds. Flowering and fruiting period is from July to October.
