[Original morphology] The lichen body is in the shape of a large leaf, spread flat, and radially distributed from the center to the surrounding areas. The lobes are wide and blunt at the ends. The upper surface is gray-green and the traditional Chinese painting dye azurite. The surface is sometimes densely covered with small tubercle-shaped to short rod-shaped powder buds. [Pharmacological action] 1. Spermicidal and antibacterial effects. The main components of plum blossom decoction, orcinol and a series of semi-synthetic orcinol esters, can inhibit sperm activity. The minimum concentration of orcinol to inhibit sperm is 4 mg/ml, which is lower than the minimum concentration specified by the International Planned Parenthood Federation. Orcinol (i.e. 3,5-dihydroxytoluene) has a good antibacterial effect on fungi such as Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton floccosum, Candida albicans, and Sporothrix in test tubes.
