【Other names】Cypress, cedar, cypress, cypress tree

[Source] This product is the dried branches and leaves of Platycladus orientalis (L.) Franco, a plant of the Cupressaceae family. It is mostly harvested in summer and autumn and dried in the shade.

【Properties】 This product is multi-branched, and the twigs are flat. The leaves are small, scaly, arranged alternately and attached to the branches, and are dark green or yellow-green. It is brittle and easily broken. It has a light fragrance and tastes bitter and slightly spicy.

【Identification】 The powder of this product is yellow-green. The upper epidermal cells are rectangular with slightly thick walls. The lower epidermal cells are square-shaped; there are many stomata, which are sunken; the guard cells are relatively large and dumbbell-shaped when viewed from the side. The parenchyma cells contain oil droplets. The fibers are long and slender, with a diameter of about 18 μm. Tracheids with marginated pits are sometimes visible.
