[Source] It is the tuberous root of the Ampelopsis pilosula of the Apocynaceae family. Harvest in autumn, wash and dry.

[Habitat distribution] Produced in Sichuan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and other places.

[Properties] The dried root tuber is cylindrical, slightly curved, about 10 to 20 cm long and 2 to 3 cm in diameter. The appearance is yellowish brown or reddish brown, the cork is rough with obvious vertical and horizontal wrinkles, the lenticels are long and horizontal, and the yellow-white xylem is exposed where the cork is broken. It is hard, light yellow-brown in cross section, powdery, with radial patterns and bright yellow spots. It has no smell and tastes bitter at first but sweet later.

[Chemical composition] The root contains 44% starch and saponins.

【Properties and flavors】 ① "Guiyang Folk Herbs": "sweet and bitter, neutral, non-toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Nourishes yin, replenishes deficiency, strengthens the spleen and aids digestion. It is used to treat exhaustion, dysentery, malnutrition, stomach pain, fullness, leucorrhea, sores and ringworms.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 2-3 qian (0.5-1 liang for fresh); or made into pills or powder. For external use: mash and apply or grind into juice for application.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat dysentery: one liang of ear leaf cowhide root. Take it in decoction, one dose per day. (Jiangxi Herbal Medicine)

[Remarks] This product is used as Cynanchum multiflorum in Jiangsu.
