[Source] It is the whole herb of Viola prostrata, a plant of the Viola family . Harvested from March to April or September to October.

[Original morphology] Annual herb, often with white soft hairs. The creeping stems emerge from the leaves at the base, take root everywhere, and produce new leaves. The leaves are clustered, round-ovate or ovate-elliptical, 2 to 7 cm long, 1.5 to 3 cm wide, with rounded serrations on the edges. The apex is rounded and obtuse, the base is narrowly cuneate, rarely heart-shaped, with scattered white soft hairs on both sides; the petiole is flat, 1.5 to 6 cm long, with narrow wings and white hairs on both sides; the stipules are free, linear-lanceolate, and have long teeth on the margins. The flowers are lavender or white, with pedicels 5 to 9 cm long, with two linear bracts in the middle, almost glabrous above the middle, and scattered white hairs below the middle; 5 sepals, lanceolate, with white hairs on the edges, and the base extended into appendages; 5 petals, oblong-obovate, the lower one with spurs, capsule oblong, about 5 mm long, glabrous. Flowering period is from April to November.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on roadsides and relatively moist land. Distributed in East China, South China and Southwest China.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind, clear away heat, promote diuresis and detoxify. Treat wind-heat cough, dysentery, stranguria, carbuncle, ulcer, blepharitis and burns.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decocted in water, 3-5 qian (1-2 liang for fresh ones). For external use: pounding.
