[Original form] Jianshi maple is a deciduous tree, about 10m tall. The bark is gray-brown; the twigs are cylindrical, the current year's branches are purple-green and covered with short soft hairs, and the old branches are light brown and glabrous; the winter buds are small, with 2 ovate scales. The compound leaves are composed of 3 leaflets, opposite, with a total petiole of 4-8cm long; the leaflets are thin papery, elliptical or oblong-elliptical, the terminal petiole is about 1cm long, the lateral petiole is about 2-3mm long, all covered with short soft hairs, the leaflets are 6-12cm long, 3-5cm wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, or nearly round, entire or with 3-5 sparse obtuse teeth near the top, the midrib and lateral veins are obvious below, and both sides are glabrous when old. The inflorescence is spike-shaped, drooping, 7-9cm long, covered with short soft hairs, and often grows on 2-3 year old branches; the flowers are polygamous, dioecious; the sepals are 5, ovate, about 1mm long; the petals are 5, short, or undeveloped; the male flowers have 4-6 stamens, about 2mm long; the disk is slightly developed; the female flowers have glabrous ovaries, short styles, and recurved stigmas. The samaras are light green when young and yellowish brown when mature; the nutlets are oblong, about 1 cm long, raised, with obvious ridges, the wings are about 5 mm wide, and 2-2.5 cm long together with the nutlets, opening into an acute angle or nearly upright; the fruit stalk is about 2 mm long. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is September-October.
