[Properties] The dried fruit shell has a twisted and thick fruit stalk; the pod is long sword-shaped, slightly spirally twisted or broken, up to 30 cm long and about 4.5 cm wide, with a pointed tip and slightly curved. The outer surface is yellow to dark yellow, wrinkled, with scattered black spots, covered with sparse short hairs and obliquely arranged white fine stripes, and there is a white spongy substance on the inside. Unopened pods have one rib on each ventral and dorsal suture. The fruit peel is fibrous. The best ones are long, wide, complete, yellow on the outside, white on the inside and free of insect bites.

【Functions and indications】Harmonizes the middle and lower Qi, disperses stasis and promotes blood circulation. Treat nausea, hiccups, chronic diarrhea, amenorrhea, laryngeal congestion, and laryngeal ringworm.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian. For external use: burn the medicine and grind it into powder for sprinkling.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat vomiting caused by food in the diaphragm and inability to swallow: 50 cents of sword bean shells, 3 salted olives, and 30 cents of Pinellia. Take it as a decoction. (Quanzhou Materia Medica)
