Effects of castor oil

Castor oil is sweet and neutral in nature. It is a commonly used ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine. However, the effects of castor oil are not only beneficial. In fact, if used improperly, it can also cause toxic side effects to people's bodies. Therefore, we must have a correct understanding of the effects of castor oil, otherwise the consequences will be very serious.

Castor oil is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine, and the fatty acid composition of castor oil mainly includes 89% of ricinoleic acid, and some other ingredients include palmitic acid, or stearic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, dihydroxystearic acid and so on. The composition of glycerides is 68.2% of triricinoleate, 28.0% of diricinoleate, 2.9% of monoricinoleate and 0.9% of non-ricinoleate. The ash contains a large amount of Ca, Fe, Si, followed by Al, Cu, Mg and a small amount of Mn, Ti, Ni, and Zn.

For treating hemiplegia, aphonia and loss of speech: one liter of castor bean fat. Put one dou of wine in a copper bowl, put the fat in the wine, cook it for one day until it is cooked, and then drink it. (Qian Jin Fang) To treat tongue swelling and blockage in the mouth: remove the shells of 40 castor beans, grind them into oil, apply it on paper, make a pinch, burn it and fumigate it. If the swelling does not go away, fumigate again until it is cured. Someone had a tongue that was swollen and sticking out of his mouth, and it was cured by using this method.

For treating burns: Mix equal amounts of 3-5% bleaching powder and castor oil to form an emulsion. Apply to the affected area and change the dressing every other day if necessary. (Selected Works of the Complete Exhibition: Surgery) To treat bleeding on the tongue: pinch castor oil into paper, burn it and smoke it into the nose.
