Viola philippica (scientific name: Viola philippica), also known as wild violet, light-petal violet, etc. Perennial herb, belonging to the order Pleurotae, family Violaceae, without above-ground stem, 4-14 cm high, leaves triangular ovate or narrow ovate at the bottom, longer at the top, oblong, narrow ovate-lanceolate or oblong-ovate, flowers medium-sized, violet or lavender, rarely white, with lighter throat color and purple stripes; capsule oblong, 5-12 mm long, seeds ovoid, 1.8 mm long, light yellow. The flowering and fruiting period is from mid-to-late April to September.

Tastes bitter, spicy and cold. It enters the heart and lung meridians. It has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and reducing swelling, clearing heat and promoting dampness. It is mainly used to treat furuncle, carbuncle, scrofula, jaundice, dysentery, diarrhea, red eyes, throat numbness, and snake bites.

Perennial herb, without above-ground stems, 4-14 cm high, reaching more than 20 cm high during fruiting period. The rhizome is short, vertical, light brown, 4-13 mm long, 2-7 mm thick, with dense nodes and several light brown or nearly white fine roots. Leaves are numerous, basal, and rosette-shaped; the lower part of the leaf blade is usually smaller, triangular-ovate or narrowly ovate, while the upper part is longer, oblong, narrowly ovate-lanceolate or oblong-ovate, 1.5-4 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide, with obtuse apex, truncate or cuneate base, sparsely cordate, with relatively flat crenates on the margin, glabrous on both sides or covered with fine short hairs, sometimes only covered with short hairs along the veins below, and the leaf blades enlarge in fruiting period, up to more than 10 cm long and 4 cm wide; the petiole is usually 1-2 times longer than the leaf blade in flowering period, with extremely narrow wings on the upper part, and can reach more than 10 cm long in fruiting period, with wider wings on the upper part, glabrous or covered with fine short hairs; stipules are membranous, pale or light green, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 2/3-4/5 connate to the petiole, the free part is linear-lanceolate, and the margin is sparsely glandular, tassel-like, finely serrated or nearly entire.

Growth habit

It likes light and a humid environment, is shade-tolerant and cold-resistant, is not picky about soil, has strong adaptability, is easy to reproduce, and can be sown directly. It usually sprouts in early March, blooms from mid-March to mid-May, with a peak flowering period of about 25 days. A single flower blooms for 6 days, and it takes 30 days from flowering to seed maturity. From April to mid-May, there are a large number of closed flowers that can form a large number of seeds, and a small number of flowers appear in late September. [3]
