[Original form] Perennial herb. The stem is erect, usually unbranched, glabrous, about 30 to 40 cm high, with distinct nodes, purple, and several pairs of scaly leaflets. There are 4 leaves opposite at the top of the stem, which are broadly ovate, ovate or elliptic, 4-12 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, with long pointed tip, cuneate base, coarse serrations on the margin, a gland at the tip of the tooth, dark green on the leaf surface, light green on the back, and papery; the petiole is about 10-15 mm long.
