[Original form] The stamen Dioscorea zingiberensis is a herbaceous vine. The rhizome is horizontal, bamboo-like, of varying lengths, about 2 cm in diameter, with slender, curved fibrous roots on the surface, and yellow in cross section. Stem cylindrical, left-handed, glabrous or sometimes densely short-haired. Simple leaves are alternate; leaf blades are triangular-cordate or ovate-acicular, apex acuminate, base cordate, broadly cordate or sometimes nearly truncated, margin wavy or nearly entire, black when dry, sometimes gray-brown on the back with white prickles, denser along the veins. Male inflorescence solitary or 2-3 clusters in leaf axils; male flowers sessile, clustered in 2-3 at the base of the inflorescence, often solitary at the top; bracts ovate-lanceolate, acuminate at the apex, bracteoles ovate, sometimes with 2 shallow lobes at the apex; perianth saucer-shaped, 6-lobed at the apex, the lobes are yellow when fresh, black after drying, and sometimes a few do not turn black; stamens 3, attached to the perianth tube, with short filaments. The anther is oval. After the flower opens, the connective becomes wider, often 1-2 times the length of the anther, and is short-forked. The reduced stamens sometimes only have filaments, which alternate with the three developed stamens. The female inflorescence is spike-shaped; the reduced stamens of the female flowers are filament-shaped; the ovary is oblong and the stigma is 3-lobed. The capsule is triangular, slightly wider at the tip and slightly narrower at the base. The surface is dark brown and bends downward when mature. There are two seeds, which are located in the middle of the central axis and have thin membrane wings around them when mature. The flowering period is from May to August, and the fruiting period is from October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It often grows in secondary oak forests and shrubs in river valleys, hillsides and gullies at an altitude of 1500-3200m.
