Because Qinjiao has a moist but not dry nature, it can be used together with a variety of Chinese medicinal materials.

Morphological characteristics of Gentiana macrophylla

Perennial herb, 30-60 cm tall, the whole plant is smooth and hairless, and the base is wrapped in dead fibrous leaf sheaths. There are many fibrous roots, which are twisted or glued together into a cylindrical root.

The branches are few and clustered, erect or obliquely ascending, yellow-green or sometimes purple-red on the upper part, and nearly round. Rosette leaves are ovate-elliptic or narrowly elliptic, 6-28 cm long, 2.5-6 cm wide, obtuse or acute at apex, gradually narrowed at base, smooth margin, 5-7 veins, obvious on both sides and raised below, petiole is broad, 3-5 cm long, enclosed in a dead fibrous sheath; stem leaves are elliptic-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 4.5-15 cm long, 1.2-3.5 cm wide, obtuse or acute at apex, obtuse at base, smooth margin, 3-5 veins, obvious on both sides and raised below, petioleless to petiole up to 4 cm long.

Functions and indications: dispel wind and dampness, harmonize blood and relax muscles, clear away heat and promote urination. It is used to treat rheumatic pain, muscle and bone cramps, jaundice, blood in the stool, bone steaming and hot flashes, infantile malnutrition and difficulty urinating.

(1) Anti-rheumatic: Used for systemic rheumatic pain, often combined with Notopterygium wilfordii and Saposhnikovia divaricata.

(2) Relieve deficiency fever: It is used for fever caused by yin deficiency, often combined with turtle shell and Rehmannia root bark.

It can be used in combination with Artemisia annua, turtle shell, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Rehmannia glutinosa, etc., such as Qinjiao Biejia Powder.
