The efficacy and function of chicken claw coptis

The ingredients of Chinese medicine are relatively complex. Many people, because they do not understand or know it, often make casual guesses or judge the efficacy of Chinese medicine based on its name. In fact, this method is wrong. Incorrect judgment of Chinese medicine will lead to counterproductive effects, and may even cause many problems and troubles. Let us take a look at the role of Coptis chinensis.

Side Effects of Coptis Chinensis

The ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine are complex, and the pharmacological effects are even more complex. The current level of technology cannot accurately explain the adverse reactions of Coptis chinensis. But one thing is certain, it has little side effects.

Coptis chinensis is very bitter and cold. Taking it excessively or for a long time can easily damage the spleen and stomach, causing diarrhea, and affecting the gastrointestinal function, which in turn affects appetite and leads to indigestion. Use with caution unless there is real heat in the body.

Coptis chinensis has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory, and has an inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli. It can be soaked in water and drunk, but it is not suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach. It is bitter and dry and can damage body fluids. People with yin deficiency and body fluid damage should use it with caution because it is bitter and cold.

Generally speaking, it is not advisable to take the medicine for a long time after the illness is cured. It is best to take it after meals. The dosage of Coptis chinensis is 2-3 grams per day for mild illness and 5-6 grams per day for severe illness. Children have imperfect spleen and stomach functions, so they should not take Coptis chinensis blindly.

How to take Coptis chinensis

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the Chinese medicine Coptis chinensis is bitter and cold in nature, and has the effects of clearing heat and dampness, purging fire and detoxifying. It is best at clearing stomach heat and purging stomach fire. Qingwei San, which is commonly used clinically to treat toothache caused by stomach fire, is one of the representative prescriptions with Coptis chinensis as the main ingredient.

Emotional tension and irritability, poor sleep quality, greasy diet and heavy taste are all common causes of stomach fire. Excessive stomach heat can cause swelling and pain or bleeding gums, dry mouth, thirst, preference for cold water or cold drinks, bitter taste in the mouth, bad breath and other discomforts, as well as flushed face, dry and hard stools, red tongue and yellow tongue coating and other heat symptoms. When Coptis chinensis is used to clear stomach fire, it can be ground into powder and taken alone, or it can be decocted and taken together with other Chinese medicines.

People with severe stomach heat can take the Chinese medicine Qingwei Huanglian Pills, or take 3 grams of Huanglian and boil it in water to drink. There is a better way: grind the coptis chinensis into fine powder and set aside, then take 50 grams of rice or millet, add appropriate amount of water and cook, take 1.5 grams of coptis chinensis powder and put it in a cup, add about 100 milliliters of rice soup, cover and simmer for 3 minutes. Drink on an empty stomach, once in the morning and once in the evening. Using rice soup to brew coptis root powder is better than decocting it directly with water. This is because rice soup can protect the stomach qi and prevent the bitter and cold coptis root from damaging the stomach.

People who often suffer from stomach heat will experience liver qi disharmony under the stimulation of negative emotions, which will further damage the spleen and stomach, manifested as heartburn, stomach noise, nausea, etc. You can take 5 grams of Coptis chinensis, 3 grams of Evodia rutaecarpa, and 10 grams of Bupleurum chinense, add water and boil them before drinking to clear the heat from the liver and stomach.
