Astragalus is one of the Chinese herbal medicines. It is a plant. Many of the tonic medicines that people take now have astragalus as an ingredient. Raw astragalus is a type of astragalus. It is mainly used to strengthen the body. Both astragalus and raw astragalus can be used as Chinese medicine. So, what is the difference between astragalus and raw astragalus?

Astragalus, also known as Astragalus membranaceus. Perennial herb, 50-100 cm tall. The taproot is thick, woody, often branched, and grayish white. The stem is erect, branched at the top, with fine ridges and covered with white soft hairs. Perennial herb, 50-100 cm tall. The astragalus used in general health care or treatment refers to raw astragalus, one of the commonly used Chinese medicines, which is the root of the leguminous plants Astragalus mongolica or Astragalus membranaceus. It is mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Heilongjiang and other places in China. Dig up in spring and autumn, remove the fibrous roots, dry, slice and use raw. It is mainly made into medicinal slices and adjusted into Chinese medicine prescriptions. Nowadays, astragalus extracts are also made into industrial preparations for oral or intravenous administration.

1. Raw Astragalus can replenish Qi. For example, lack of energy in speaking, lack of energy in walking, and pale complexion are all manifestations of spleen and lung Qi deficiency. Raw Astragalus can replenish the qi of the whole body. For example, raw Astragalus can be used for qi deficiency in the upper body, and it can also be used for qi deficiency in the lower body. Raw Astragalus has the effects of invigorating Qi and strengthening the exterior, promoting diuresis and reducing swelling, detoxifying, and promoting tissue regeneration. It is suitable for spontaneous sweating, night sweats, blood stasis, edema, carbuncles that do not ulcerate or ulcers that do not heal for a long time, etc.

2. Cooked Astragalus is made from traditional Astragalus preparation, which is made by slicing raw Astragalus, adding honey and frying it. The preparation process is relatively rough and labor-intensive. Roasted Astragalus is good at replenishing Qi and producing blood. It is suitable for shortness of breath due to lung deficiency, weak Qi and blood, and constipation due to Qi deficiency. Doctors often use it for patients with "insufficient Qi and sagging organs".

Roasted Astragalus focuses on replenishing Qi and raising Yang, and is the most widely used of all processed Astragalus preparations. Due to the large clinical demand for its medicinal pieces, research on its processing has received particular attention. There are many research reports on the improvement of traditional methods, processing temperature, processing time, amount of auxiliary materials, and finished product quality analysis.
