If you don't know this flower, you might easily mistake it for morning glory. In fact, it has strong jasmine genes and belongs to the Mirabilis jalapa family. In the past in the countryside, many people’s childhood memories had its beautiful figure in front of and behind their houses. Now, its embellishment is indispensable in the green belts of big cities, and even its fragrance can be smelled in some high-rise buildings. The flowering period of Mirabilis jalapa is generally between July and September. It is a typical flower in the transition period between summer and autumn. After autumn, its roots become a traditional Chinese medicinal material that can cure more than a dozen diseases. The famous Qing Dynasty Chinese medicine book "Supplement to Compendium of Materia Medica" records that Mirabilis jalapa root can "cure breast abscess and leukorrhea." These two diseases are the unspeakable secrets of women and men respectively. Mastitis is an acute suppurative disease occurring in the breast. Patients with mastitis generally have lumps, swelling and pain in the breast, accompanied by symptoms such as fever throughout the body. Mastitis often occurs in lactating women, especially in primiparas who are less than one month old. Leucorrhea, also known as urine spermatorrhea, is one of the symptoms of chronic prostatitis. Some men who do not have nocturnal emission or ejaculation find that there is a substance similar to semen in their underwear. This is mainly due to inflammation of the prostate, which increases the secretion of prostatic fluid and causes it to overflow. Patients often find thin watery secretions dripping from the urethra when they wake up in the morning. There may also be thicker milky white mucus. The most obvious is that one or two drops of white liquid are discharged from the urethra after urination or defecation. Traditional Chinese medicine calls it leucorrhea, and Western medicine calls it dripping white. In addition to treating the two diseases mentioned above, the roots of Mirabilis jalapa have many other functions. Here are some examples for your reference. The Kunming Medicinal Plant Survey Report records that it can "facilitate urination and eliminate edema." The Guizhou Folk Prescriptions and Medicines Collection records that it can "treat women's metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, furuncles, injuries and bone setting." The Nanning City Medicinal Records records that it can "treat lung fatigue and coughing up blood." The Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Records records that it can "treat fatigue and weight loss, dizziness, stranguria and metrorrhagia in women." The roots of Mirabilis jalapa are generally collected in autumn and winter, and there is a certain procedure for its preparation, so be sure to consult a Chinese medicine practitioner or pharmacist before use! |
