Continuous administration for one week can also significantly inhibit the proliferation of cotton ball granulation tissue in mice. The alcohol extract of Acanthopanax brevis has a significant inhibitory effect on rat foot swelling induced by carrageenan, egg white and formaldehyde, and on air cyst exudation and cotton ball granulation hyperplasia in mice induced by croton oil. It can also significantly inhibit adjuvant joint swelling and immune complex-mediated allergic inflammatory response in rats. It is currently believed that the anti-inflammatory effect of Acanthopanax Cortex is mainly due to reducing the release of inflammatory mediators and inhibiting their inflammatory effects.

⑵ Effect on immune function: The alcohol precipitation solution of Acanthopanax gracilis cortex has an inhibitory effect on immune function, can significantly reduce the phagocytic percentage and phagocytic index of peritoneal macrophages in mice, and significantly inhibit the antibody-forming cells in the spleen of mice. The half-heart transplantation experiment in neonatal mice proved that Acanthopanax gracilis bark had a certain anti-rejection effect and could significantly prolong the average survival time of the transplanted myocardium.

The total saponins and polysaccharides of Acanthopanax Cortex have the effect of improving the body's immune function. Intragastric administration can promote the phagocytic function of the reticuloendothelial system of mice, significantly improve the serum carbon clearance rate, increase the concentration of serum antibodies in mice, and improve the humoral immune function.

⑶ Sedation and analgesia: Acanthopanax gracilis alcohol extract has a synergistic effect on subthreshold sodium pentobarbital, which significantly prolongs the sleeping time of mice. Its n-butanol extract and Acanthopanax breviscapus alcohol extract can both increase the pain threshold and have a significant analgesic effect.

⑷ Anti-cadmium mutagenic and anti-stress effects: Cadmium is a heavy metal inducer that has a strong mutagenic effect on germ cells and can induce sperm deformity and an increase in micronuclei in bone marrow cells in mice. Continuous oral administration of the water extract of Acanthopanax Cortex to mice for 5 weeks can reduce cadmium-induced sperm abnormalities and increase in bone marrow cell micronuclei, with inhibition rates of 63.9% and 74.3%, respectively. The total saponins of Acanthopanax gracilis can significantly prolong the swimming time, heat stress survival time and normal pressure hypoxia tolerance time of mice.
