Agarwood, the name of Chinese herbal medicine. It is the wood coated with epoxy resin from the green plants Aquilaria agallocha Roxb. and Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Gilg of the Thymelaeaceae family. It has the effects of regulating qi and relieving pain, warming the body and stopping vomiting, and promoting qi and stopping wheezing. It is mainly used to treat chest and abdominal distension and pain caused by cold stagnation, qi stagnation and blood stasis, stomach cold vomiting, and kidney deficiency wheezing. First, agarwood trees need to meet clear standards to produce agarwood, and the production of agarwood also requires certain environmental factors. It usually takes several decades. If the epoxy resin content is high, it may even take hundreds of years. Therefore, high-quality agarwood is extremely rare, precious, scarce, and relatively expensive. Second, in recent years, due to low natural reproduction capacity, pests and diseases, and predatory logging, agarwood resources have suffered serious damage. Now there are only scattered remaining main stems, and the natural resources of agarwood are on the verge of extinction. Since 1987, agarwood has been listed as a national rare and endangered third-level rare plant, and was later approved by the General Office of the State Council as a national second-level top priority rare plant. Therefore, natural agarwood is very precious. Third, Vietnam, the main producing area of agarwood, has long banned the import and export of agarwood. The storage volume of agarwood is less than that of jade, and agarwood is a consumable product. The whole world is playing with it, and the demand far exceeds the supply. Of course, the price will continue to soar, and the reserves of agarwood are small, so it is easy to hoard. A large number of assets intervene in the agarwood market to monopolize the first-hand supply and cannot be circulated, thus leading to a further shortage of first-hand supply. Therefore, agarwood is sold by gram, and the price per gram is much higher than gold. This is not only because of its scarcity and preciousness, but also because with the revitalization of incense culture and the development of society, agarwood has not only become a collection, but also an investment product. Agarwood is a relatively complex system with different evaluation index systems from many aspects such as the degree of fragrance, maturity level, planting area, etc., which leads to a huge difference in the price of agarwood. The grades of different agarwoods can differ by nearly a thousand times, ranging from tens of yuan to over ten thousand yuan, depending on the quality. The recognized market price of high-quality Vietnamese red clay agarwood is about 3,000 yuan per gram. It is not uncommon for high-quality red clay agarwood to sell for 5,000 yuan per gram. High-quality agarwood can also reach more than 10,000 yuan per gram. The price of this kind of high-quality agarwood is within the normal range, but the number of agarwood on the market that matches this price is very small, so good quality agarwood is still in short supply and extremely rare. |
