What is the medicinal value of Eucommia ulmoides leaves?

There are many chronic diseases that cannot be cured by Western medicine, but Chinese medicine and Chinese herbs have very good therapeutic effects. This mainly relies on the combination of different Chinese medicines, selecting medicines based on the cause of the disease, and then conducting targeted treatment to achieve better therapeutic effects. Many Chinese medicines can treat many diseases. For example, Eucommia leaves can have a good therapeutic effect on liver, kidney and hypertension. Next, let’s talk about what effects Eucommia leaves have.

1. Pain relief

Eucommia leaves have sedative and analgesic effects. After 20g/kg of Eucommia leaves decoction was gavaged into mice, the number of spontaneous activities of mice was significantly reduced 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours later, and the most obvious effect was observed at 2 hours. The hot plate method experiment confirmed that intraperitoneal injection of 12g/kg of Eucommia ulmoides leaves decoction and alcohol precipitation into mice can increase the pain threshold of mice and have a significant analgesic effect.

2. Blood pressure reduction

Repeated intravenous administration of Eucommia ulmoides leaf decoction and alcohol extract in a short period of time can produce rapid tolerance, and even no antihypertensive effect may be observed after continuous administration for 3-4 times. The water decoction of Eucommia leaves and 65% ethanol extract 6g/kg intravenous injection can cause a significant decrease in blood pressure in rabbits. The aqueous solution, alcohol solution, ether solution and purified components of Eucommia ulmoides leaves such as sugars, alkaloids, aucubin and chlorogenic acid injected intravenously into rabbits all had different degrees of antihypertensive effects.

3. Anti-inflammatory

Eucommia ulmoides leaves have anti-inflammatory effects. Giving rats 10g/kg of Eucommia ulmoides leaf alcohol extract has an inhibitory effect on egg white foot edema, but the effect is weaker than that of sodium salicylate. The effects of Eucommia leaves depend on the presence of the adrenal glands. Administration of 10g/kg of Eucommia leaf decoction for 5 days can significantly reduce the percentage of lymphocytes in the blood of mice and cause thymus atrophy in young mice. Administration of 10g/kg of Eucommia leaf decoction for 8 consecutive days can significantly increase the plasma cortisol content and reduce the vitamin C content in the adrenal glands of rats.

4. Anti-aging

Eucommia leaves can resist aging. The main characteristic of human aging is the slowdown of protein, especially collagen synthesis, and the renewal rate of the stratum corneum also slows down accordingly. Research by Japanese scholars has shown that the chemical components of the Chinese medicinal herbs Eucommia ulmoides leaves and Eucommia ulmoides bark are extremely similar, and their pharmacological effects are also similar. Eucommia leaf extract can stimulate collagen synthesis in aged rat model. They also studied the methanol extract of Eucommia ulmoides leaves and proved that it can inhibit the aging process.

The therapeutic effect of Eucommia leaves is very good. However, during treatment, any combination with other drugs and the dosage will directly affect the efficacy. Therefore, when using Eucommia leaves to treat diseases, you must strictly follow the doctor's instructions. This is the only way to achieve the best treatment effect for the symptoms of the disease and reduce physical pain.
