The dark red inner layer after cutting off is called red Poria cocos, and the milky white part after cutting off the red Poria cocos is called white Poria cocos, generally known as coix seed.

The sclerotium of red tuckahoe is spherical, ovoid, oval or irregular in shape, 10-30cm long or longer, and the net weight varies, usually 500-5000g. The outside has a thick and wrinkled skin that is dark red in color. It is soft when fresh but becomes hard when dry. The inside is milky white or light pink and powdery and granular. The fruiting body grows on the surface of the sclerotium, is completely flat, 3-8cm thick, milky white, fleshy, and turns light brown when old or dry.

In terms of characteristics, red tuckahoe is in the form of grids of varying sizes, 4-5cm wide, 0.4-0.6cm thick, with broken pieces of more than 1.5cm in width, dark red or light brown. It is loose in texture and slightly ductile. Slight odor, light taste.
