【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, and dredges the meridians. It is used to treat fever caused by febrile diseases, bloody dysentery due to heat toxins, infectious hepatitis, carbuncles, ulcers, and pain in the muscles and bones.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 0.3-1 liang; made into pills, powder or soaked in wine. For external use: decoct in water for fumigation and washing, prepare paste for application, or grind into powder for application.

【Clinical application】①Treatment of infectious hepatitis

Take 2 liang of honeysuckle vine, add 1000 ml of water, boil until 400 ml, take it in the morning and evening. One course of treatment is 15 days, with 1 to 3 days between each course. Twenty-two cases were treated, among which 12 had basically disappeared symptoms and normal liver function; 6 had partially disappeared or significantly alleviated symptoms and signs and significantly improved liver function; and 4 had no obvious changes in symptoms and signs.

②Treatment of bacterial dysentery and enteritis

Chop 100 grams of honeysuckle vine into small pieces, put them in a clay pot, add 200 ml of water, leave it for 12 hours, simmer for 3 hours over low heat, add appropriate amount of distilled water to make it 100 ml, and filter. Take 1.6 to 2.4 ml per kilogram of body weight per day, and increase or decrease the dosage according to the severity of the disease. Generally, the initial dose is 20 ml, once every 4 hours. After symptoms improve, change to 20 ml, 4 times a day, until 2 days after diarrhea stops.

In traditional Chinese medicine, honeysuckle vine can be used to make many kinds of prescriptions to treat different diseases. For example, after mashing the honeysuckle vine and adding realgar, it can be boiled and taken to treat persistent ulcers. Honeysuckle vine can also be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, and its effect is better than some Western medicines. Therefore, patients may wish to try it.
