[Source] It is a plant of the genus Rubus in the Rosaceae family, Rubus corchorifolius LF, and its roots and leaves are used as medicine. Dig up the roots in autumn, wash them, slice them and dry them. The leaves can be picked from spring to autumn, washed, chopped and dried.

[Original form] Deciduous small shrub, 1~2 meters high. The stem is erect with basal branches; the twigs are reddish brown, pubescent only when young, falling off when old, and covered with slightly curved prickles. Simple leaves are alternate, with long petioles, sometimes longer than the leaf blades, and with small hooked spines on the midrib; stipules are attached to the petioles; leaf blades are ovate, 3-9 cm long, 2-5 mm wide, unlobed or 3 shallowly lobed, with irregular double serrations, pointed at the apex, shallowly cordate or truncate at the base, with 3 basal veins, and hairy on both sides. Flowers bloom on twigs in spring, with 1 or several flowers clustered opposite the leaves; pedicels less than 1 cm long, sparsely pubescent; sepals ovate-lanceolate, pointed at the end, densely covered with grayish-white pubescence; corolla white, about 3 cm in diameter; petals 5, oblong, pointed at the end; stamens numerous; carpels numerous, born on a raised receptacle. The aggregate fruit is spherical, about 1.2 cm in diameter, and bright red.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on sunny slope grasslands, stream banks, bushes and near villages. Distributed in East China, Central South, Southwest China and Shaanxi.

【Chemical composition】 The root contains phenolic components and saponins.

[Nature and flavor] Root: bitter, astringent, neutral; Leaves: bitter, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Root: promotes blood circulation, stops bleeding, dispels wind and dampness. Used for vomiting blood, bloody stool, enteritis, dysentery, rheumatic joint pain, traumatic injuries, irregular menstruation, and leucorrhea. Leaves: reduce swelling and detoxify. Used externally to treat carbuncles, boils and swellings.

[Usage and Dosage] 0.5-1 liang of root; appropriate amount of leaves for external use, mash the fresh leaves and apply to the affected area.
