Eel's efficacy and function

Eel's efficacy and function

I don’t know if you are familiar with eels and whether you understand their functions and effects. Let’s analyze in detail the value and eating methods of eels.

[Other names] Yellow croaker (Classic of Mountains and Seas), yellow croaker (Yiyuan), croaker (Qianjin Food Therapy), sea snake (Heilongjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine).

[Source] The meat or whole body of the eel , a member of the family Albus.

[Original form] Yellow eel (Xu Zhong's "Description of Southern Grasses")

[Habitat distribution] It is widely distributed throughout the country except the northwest and southwest.

[Chemical composition] Every 100 grams of edible part contains 80 grams of water, 18.8 grams of protein, 0.9 grams of fat, 1 gram of ash, 38 milligrams of calcium, 150 milligrams of phosphorus, and 1.6 milligrams of iron.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, warm.

[entry into meridians] Enters the liver, spleen and kidney meridians.

【Functions and indications】Replenish deficiency, eliminate rheumatism, and strengthen muscles and bones. It is used to treat tuberculosis, wind-cold-dampness arthralgia, postpartum stranguria, dysentery with pus and blood, hemorrhoids, fistulas, and ecthyma.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: cook and mash the meat into pills or roast and grind into powder. For external use: cut into slices and apply.

【Note】 ① "Bielu": "When the epidemic disease recurs, eating more will make it worse."

[Additional prescription] ① Increase strength: bear tendon, tiger bone, angelica, and ginseng in equal parts. Grind it into powder, steam a large eel with wine, take out the meat and mash it into pills. Take about two bottles of wine on an empty stomach every day. (Da Li Wan from Ben Jing Feng Yuan)

[Explanations by various scholars] "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Eel is sweet and warm, so it can nourish the middle and replenish blood. The sweet and warm properties can open up the meridians and treat wind evil, so it is also used to treat sunken lips. People today also use it to treat crooked mouth and eyes."
