[Source] It is the root of the Caprifoliaceae plant. Harvested in late autumn. Wash and dry.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30 to 70 cm tall, covered with coarse hairs. The roots are stout, conical, forked, and have fibrous roots. Stem single, erect. Leaves are opposite, often with 4 leaves arranged in a nearly whorled pattern at the top of the stem; oblong, deeply pinnate-lobed, 10 to 20 cm long. The spike inflorescence is terminal and pedunculate; the flowers are white; the calyx tube is ovate, with 5 persistent lobes; the corolla is narrowly funnel-shaped, swollen on one side of the base, with 5 unequal lobes; there are 5 stamens; the ovary is inferior, with 3 to 5 chambers, and each chamber has 1 ovule. The berry is nearly spherical, milky white, 6 to 8 mm in diameter, and contains 3 seeds. The seeds are flat oval, smooth, and 6 mm long.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, neutral.

【Functions and indications】Relieve rheumatism, regulate qi and activate blood circulation, strengthen the spleen and stomach, reduce inflammation and relieve pain, and promote tissue regeneration. Treat overwork, rheumatic pain in waist and legs, trauma, indigestion, irregular menstruation, and leucorrhea.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 3 qian.
