[Original form] Perennial herb, 30 to 100 cm tall, with a foul smell. The stem is erect, branched at the top and covered with fine soft hairs. The leaves at the lower part of the stem are alternate; slightly petiolate; the leaf blade is broadly elliptic or oblong, 10-15 cm long, 5-8 cm wide, pointed or obtuse at the apex, entire, or with irregular serrations, darker green and smooth above, with fine soft hairs and glandular dots below; the leaves at the upper part of the stem are nearly sessile; oblong, gradually becoming smaller upwards. There are many capitulums, axillary, nearly sessile, and sometimes drooping; the involucre is bell-shaped or slightly rounded, the outer bracts are slightly shorter and ovate, and the middle and inner bracts are oblong; the inflorescence is full of tubular flowers, yellow; the outer layer of the inflorescence is female flowers, with 3 to 5 teeth at the apex of the corolla, and the stigma is exposed after flowering; the central layers are bisexual flowers, with 4 to 5 teeth at the apex of the corolla, and both the stamens and pistils are exposed after flowering, the base of the anthers is arrow-shaped, the stigma is deeply lobed in 2, and the lobes are linear. Achenes are about 3 to 5 mm long, with multiple longitudinal grooves, a short linear beak at the top, and no pappus. Flowering period is from June to August. The fruiting period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in grass in mountains. Distributed in Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Shaanxi and other places.

【Nature and flavor】Pungent, cold.

【Functions and indications】Expectorant, heat-clearing, blood-breaking, hemostasis, detoxification, and insecticidal. It is used to treat milk moth, throat congestion, malaria, acute hepatitis, acute and chronic convulsions, worm accumulation, blood clots, epistaxis, hematuria, carbuncle, sores, and itchy skin rashes.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian; mash into juice or make into pills or powder. For external use: mash and apply or decoct in water for fumigation and washing.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating throat swelling and blockage, phlegm stagnation, and throat swelling and water that cannot be discharged: mash the Chinese cabbage into juice. Sweeping with a goose feather is the best way to remove phlegm. (Essentials of Treating Colds)
