[Source] It is a plant of the genus Bergenia in the Saxifragaceae family, Bergenia purpurascens (Hook. f. et Thoms.) Engl. var. delavayi (Franch.) Engl. et Irm., and its rhizome or whole plant is used as medicine. Collect them in summer and autumn, dig out the big ones and keep the small ones, wash off the mud and sand, remove the dead leaves near the roots, and dry them.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, slightly astringent, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies, stops bleeding, and regulates menstruation. Used for cough, hemoptysis, hematemesis, epistaxis, bloody stool, enteritis, dysentery, functional uterine bleeding, leucorrhea, and irregular menstruation caused by pulmonary tuberculosis; used externally to treat impetigo.

[Usage and Dosage] 1-3 qian; for external use, mash an appropriate amount and mix with egg white to apply to the affected area.
