[Source] It is the whole herb of Selaginella yanzhouensis, a plant of the Selaginellaceae family . Harvest in autumn.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 14 to 45 cm tall. The main stem is erect, the unbranched part at the bottom is 6 to 15 cm long, cylindrical, straw-colored, with leaves imbricate, ovate-rectangular, gradually pointed, and heart-shaped at the base; the upper part is pinnate-branched 3 times. The leaves on the branches are dense, heteromorphic, and arranged in 4 rows; the lateral leaves are asymmetrical, acute, 2 mm long, 1.25 mm wide, smooth on the leaves, the upper half of the lateral leaves are semi-ovate, the base is cordate, covered by the branches, with fine serrations, the lower half is semi-ovate-lanceolate, the base is truncate, the margin is entire, and has ciliate margins; the middle leaf is ovate, acuminate, or with short awns, the outer margin is entire, and the inner side is serrated. Sporangium spike solitary, rarely 2, attached to branch ends, 4-ribbed, 4-20 mm long; sporangium leaves round, ovate-triangular, acuminate, keel-shaped, and toothed.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on rocks in shady places such as under forests, in valleys, on roadsides and in ditches. Distributed in Southwest China, South China, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei to Shaanxi.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy, neutral.

[Entry into meridians] "Quanzhou Materia Medica": "enters the lung, liver, heart, and spleen meridians."

[Functions and indications] Cooling blood, stopping bleeding, resolving phlegm, calming asthma, promoting diuresis and reducing swelling. Treat vomiting blood, epistaxis, rectal bleeding, phlegm and cough, asthma, jaundice, edema, gonorrhea, leucorrhea, and burns.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decocted in water, 3-5 qian (1-2 liang for fresh ones). For external use: mash and apply or grind into powder and apply.
