[Source] The whole plant or root of the Oxalis family. Harvested in June and July.

[Original form] Perennial evergreen herb, about 35 cm tall. The underground part has a bulb, which is white, round in shape, and about 2 to 2.5 cm long; the scales are membranous, brown, with three longitudinal ridges on the back and are covered with hairs. Leaves protrude from the base; palmately compound leaves, with 3 leaflets, broadly obovate, up to 3.5 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm wide, concave at the apex, entire, hairy, with small brown cave-like glandular dots on both sides; petiole 20-24 cm long, slender, and pubescent. The flower stalk emerges from the leaf axils, in umbels, with 5 to 10 flowers; 5 sepals, green, with a pair of red glands at the tip; 5 petals, light purple; 10 stamens, 5 long and 5 short; ovary with 5 chambers, 5 styles, separate. The capsule is short linear, 1.7 to 2 cm long, hairy, and splits when ripe. The seeds are small, oval, and brown. Flowering period is May. The fruiting period is from June to July.

[Habitat distribution] Sparse forests, barren slopes or planted in gardens. It is cultivated in all parts of my country, north and south.

【Chemical composition】 Contains oxalate.

[Pharmacological action] The plant of the same genus, Oxalis, also contains oxalic acid. Livestock (cattle) may get Oxalis syndrome if they eat it. The main symptom is an abnormally high level of non-protein nitrogen in the blood and kidney lesions.

【Nature and flavor】 Sour, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Dissipates blood stasis and reduces swelling, clears away heat and detoxifies. Treat injuries from falls, sore throat, pyelonephritis, stranguria, leucorrhea, watery diarrhea, dysentery, carbuncle, and burns.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang; or stew with meat. For external use: mash and apply; or mash and mix for application.
