[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Blackthorne Herba, a plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Blackthorn grass, a herbaceous plant, 30-70cm tall. The stem is erect, quadrangular, and densely covered with short soft hairs. Leaves are opposite; petiole 0.5-2cm long, densely covered with short soft hairs; leaf blade ovate, 2.5-6cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, apex acute or short acuminate, base obtuse or rounded, margin heavily serrated, densely covered with flat short soft hairs on the upper side, short soft hairs on the lower side, denser along the veins, with glandular dots. The cyme is multi-flowered, forming a continuous or slightly interrupted pseudospike, terminal, 6-11cm long; the bracts are shaped like bracts, with hard ciliates; the calyx is tubular-bell-shaped, 3-3.5mm long, densely covered with grayish-white short soft hairs, with a white hard hair ring at the inner throat, 5 calyx teeth, subulate, nearly equal in length, with fine bristles on the edges; the corolla is lavender or purple, slightly longer than the calyx, the upper lip is 3-lobed, the lower lip is entire, the lobes are nearly equal, and the outside is bearded; the stamens are 4, extending outward, and the middle part of the filaments is bearded; the ovary is 4-lobed, the style is nearly equal to the stamens, and the stigma is 2-lobed; the disk is cup-shaped. The nutlets are nearly round and have ridges on the ventral surface. The flowering period is from September to October, and the fruiting period is from October to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on hillsides, roadsides, bushes and forests at an altitude of 1100-2600m, on dry or wet land.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; regulates qi and relieves pain. Indications: Wind-heat cold; mouth sores; abdominal distension and pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3-15g; or gargle; or chew fresh product raw.
