Green is the most attractive background color of Pingtan, Fujian. Over the years, Pingtan has aimed at the integrated construction of urban and rural greening. In 2023, the coastal ecological protection and restoration project in the Junshan area of ​​Pingtan will be basically completed. The project has taken measures such as beach remediation and restoration, sand dune restoration, and vegetation sand fixation restoration. After two years of construction, a total of 7.9 kilometers of coastline have been renovated and 684 acres of area have been restored, including 228 acres of tree, shrub and grass vegetation. The ecological function of the coastline has been gradually restored, and a complete ecological barrier has been built in the eastern part of the island. Pingtan has taken new steps in the construction of the coastal shelterbelt system. In the past three years, a total of 55 kilometers of new traffic arterial landscape greening and beautification have been built, with a total area of ​​68 hectares. 18 green demonstration villages have been cultivated, and 4 national forest villages have been built, gradually realizing full-area greening and greatly improving the livability of the city. Today, the 21.3-kilometer-long frontier backbone forest belt and island shelterbelt in Pingtan's five major wind outlets have become a green barrier for the island, and Pingtan's coastal shelterbelt system has been basically completed; the district's cultivated land area has expanded by 19,500 mu, and more than 20,000 mu of farmland located in wind outlets and severely desertified have been reclaimed. The desolate and windy scene of the past is gone forever.

In Pingtan, the lifestyle of "seeing greenery when you open the window and entering a park when you push the door" has quietly become a reality. In 2019, Pingtan was awarded the title of "National Forest City". According to statistics, at present, the per capita park green area in the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone is 14.15 square meters, and the coverage rate of the park green service radius is 80.99%, basically achieving the goal of greening the entire island all year round. In 2020, Pingtan's ambient air quality compliance rate remained at 98.9%, and the comprehensive ambient air quality index was 2.0.

Ecological civilization construction has embedded a "green engine" for the development of Pingtan's tourism industry. Starting from 2021, Pingtan has insisted on playing a "chess game" for all-region tourism, making full use of the "tourism +" cross-border integration article, in order to enhance the tourism experience and create a comfortable island, step up the cultivation of new formats, new products, and new models, and provide a continuous endogenous driving force for the development of the tourism industry. Data show that during the May Day holiday this year, the district received 678,300 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 118.7%, 64.7 percentage points higher than the province; tourism revenue reached 547 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 127.9%, 60.2 percentage points higher than the province. A total of 315,200 vehicles entered and left the island, and 51,700 people entered the island at the Pingtan High-speed Railway Station. Among them, on May 1, the number of vehicles entering and leaving the island reached 103,467, a record high. Behind the numbers is Pingtan's exploration of building and upgrading an international tourist island.
