[Source] It is the root of the Rutaceae plant Dichroa japonica . Harvested from September to October.

[Original form] Deciduous shrub, up to 3 meters high. The branches are yellowish brown and hairless. The young shoots are green with sparse white hairs that fall off quickly, or become smooth and hairless. Simple leaves are alternate; with yellow translucent glandular dots, stinking; petiole is grooved, sparsely covered with white hairs or glabrous; leaf blade is rhombic-ovate to ovate-elliptic, 3-17 cm long, 2-9 cm wide, acuminate or with obtuse tip, base broadly cuneate, entire, or with fine obtuse serrations. The flowers are unisexual, dioecious, and yellow-green; the male inflorescence is racemose, laterally grown at the base of new branches, with scattered white hairs on the rachis and pedicel; there is an ovate bract at the base of the pedicel; there are 2 opposite ovate bracteoles at the base of the calyx tube, 4 sepals, ovate, fused at the base, with hairy edges, 4 petals, 4 stamens, alternate with the petals; the female flower is solitary, with 4 reduced stamens, superior ovary, 4 carpels, short style, and 4-lobed stigma. Capsule, 2-valved. Seeds black, nearly spherical. Flowering period is March.

【Habitat distribution】Grows in mountains and fields. There are also cultivators. Distributed throughout my country's area south of the Yangtze River.

[Chemical composition] The root contains bioalkaloids such as february ine, linalool, linalool, cypermethrin, nor- and february ine. The fruit contains vanillic acid and taroline.

[Properties and flavors] "Guiyang Folk Herbs": "bitter, cold, non-toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and relieves exterior symptoms, promotes qi and relieves pain, dispels wind and removes dampness. Treat wind-heat cold, cough, sore throat, toothache, stomachache, rheumatic joint pain, dysentery, and unknown swelling.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian; or grind into powder. For external use: grind into powder and apply on skin.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat wind-heat and sweat retention: one qian of smelly goat powder. Take with liquor. Cover with a blanket after taking it to induce sweating.
