The highest level red alert, Typhoon "Sura" is approaching my country with wind and rain! Please take precautions in these areas!

At 6:00 on August 31, the Central Meteorological Observatory upgraded and issued the highest level of typhoon red warning :

The center of this year's ninth typhoon "Sura" (super typhoon level) moved into the northeastern waters of the South China Sea on the evening of August 30. At 5:00 on August 31, it was located on the sea about 330 kilometers southeast of Huilai, Guangdong. The maximum wind speed near the center was 17 (58 meters/second).

It is expected that "Sura" will move northwestward at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour, gradually approaching the coast of eastern Guangdong, slowly weakening in intensity, and will make landfall in the coastal areas of Huilai and Hong Kong, Guangdong in the afternoon to night of September 1 (strong typhoon level or super typhoon level). It is also possible to move west-southwestward toward the coastal waters of eastern Guangdong.

It is predicted that from 8:00 on August 31 to 8:00 on September 1, there will be strong winds of 6-8 and gusts of 9-10 in the Bashi Channel, the Taiwan Strait, the northeastern South China Sea, the coast of Fujian, the central and eastern coast of Guangdong, the southern coast of Taiwan Island, and the Dongsha Islands. Among them, the wind force in the western waters of the Bashi Channel, the northeastern waters of the South China Sea, and the Dongsha Islands will be 9-11, and the wind force in some sea areas may reach 12-13. The wind force on the nearby sea where the center of "Sura" passes will be 14-17, with gusts above 17.

It is expected that from 8:00 on August 31 to 8:00 on September 1, parts of southeastern Fujian, eastern Guangdong, central and southern Taiwan Island will have heavy to torrential rain, with local torrential rain (100-220 mm). The Ministry of Water Resources has initiated a Level IV emergency response for flood and drought disaster prevention.

School opening times postponed in many places

Huizhou City

On August 30, the Huizhou Municipal Education Bureau issued an "Emergency Notice on Delaying the Start of School", postponing the start of the 2023 fall semester to September 4, 2023 (for ordinary high school students who have returned to school, the school will strictly implement relevant work such as on-campus safety management).

Shanwei City

On August 30, the Shanwei Municipal Education Bureau issued an "Emergency Notice on Adjusting the Start Date and Preparing for Typhoon Surakarta", postponing the start date of the new semester for all primary and secondary schools (kindergartens) from September 1 to September 4 (Monday), and making up for the classes on September 1 (Friday) on September 9 (Saturday). The senior high school students and all off-campus training institutions in the city will suspend classes from August 31, and all on-campus teaching and research activities will be suspended. Classes will resume after the typhoon has passed and the conditions for resuming classes are confirmed.

Chaozhou City

On August 30, the Chaozhou Municipal Education Bureau issued a notice that the start date of the 2023 autumn semester for all primary and secondary schools, secondary vocational schools, and kindergartens in the city will be adjusted to September 4, and all school activities such as summer care, senior high school classes, and military training will be stopped in an orderly manner from August 31. All colleges and universities will follow the arrangements for the return of teachers and students to school.
