The reporter learned from the FAST Operation and Development Center on the 25th that as of now, the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), known as the "China Sky Eye", has discovered more than 800 new pulsars.

Jiang Peng, executive deputy director and chief engineer of the FAST Operation and Development Center, introduced that the "China Sky Eye" is the world's largest and most sensitive single-aperture radio telescope. The number of new pulsars discovered by the "China Sky Eye" is more than three times the total number of pulsars discovered by all other telescopes in the world in the same period.

In recent years, the "China Sky Eye" has continued to produce results in the areas of the origin and physical mechanism of fast radio bursts, neutral hydrogen universe research, pulsar search and physics research, greatly expanding the limits of human observation of the universe.

At present, the "China Sky Eye" has entered a period of explosive growth in results. Since the beginning of this year, it has released a number of important results, including the discovery of a pulsar binary system with an orbital period of only 53 minutes and the detection of key evidence of the existence of nanohertz gravitational waves, continuing to maintain my country's international leading position in low-frequency radio astronomy.
