Chongqing experiences the heaviest rainfall since the beginning of the flood season

On July 4, the Chongqing Water Conservancy Bureau announced that from 8:00 on June 29 to 8:00 on July 3, Chongqing experienced heavy rainfall, which was also the heaviest rainfall in Chongqing since the beginning of the flood season this year. From 8:00 on July 3 to 8:00 on July 4, 10 rivers exceeded the warning level, including Sunxi River in Jiangjin District, Wuqiao River in Wanzhou District, and Zhuyi River in Fengjie County.

Starting at 8:00 on July 3, torrential rains occurred in 24 districts and counties including Wanzhou, Zhongxian, and Xiushan, of which 16 districts and counties experienced heavy rains, and Wanzhou experienced extremely heavy rains. The Wanzhou District Meteorological Observatory issued a red warning signal for heavy rains at 8:42 on July 4, 2023. 34 rainfall stations in 15 towns and villages including Wuling, Changling, and Baiyang recorded heavy rains, and many streets were flooded, with cars being submerged.

On July 4, in Wuqiao Street, Wanzhou District, Chongqing, fire rescue personnel used speedboats to rescue and transfer trapped people.

At 11:00 a.m. on July 4, the Chongqing Hydrological Monitoring Center issued a message saying that due to heavy rainfall, the water level of Qijiang River continued to rise. The water level at Qijiang Wucha Station in Jiangjin District was 198.64 meters at 11:00 on July 4, exceeding the warning level by 0.13 meters. "Qijiang Flood No. 1 in 2023" has formed.

Starting from 8:30 a.m. on July 4, the Wanzhou District Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters adjusted the flood control level IV emergency response to level III emergency response. After the flood, more than 4,500 people in Wanzhou have been safely relocated.
