Why is konjac so low in calories?

Konjac has always been known as a perfect weight loss food. It is cheap, very filling, and can be cooked in many ways. But why can eating konjac help you lose weight? Is there any problem if you eat too much? Today, let's talk about these things about "konjac".

It is undeniable that the calories in konjac are not high. A 100-gram serving of rice contains 156 kcal, while the same weight of konjac contains only 7 kcal . Not only that, konjac has a chewy texture, and you can feel full after chewing it thoroughly. In this sense, the weight-loss effect of konjac can be said to be certain.

Why is konjac so low in calories? In fact, 96% to 97% of konjac is water , and the main component is glucomannan, which is a kind of dietary fiber, but it will expand when it encounters water. Konjac, which is mostly composed of water and dietary fiber, naturally does not have high calories.

Why can eating konjac help you lose weight?

Scientists have actually conducted experiments on the weight loss effect of konjac. In one experiment, scientists asked obese people to take glucomannan for 8 weeks, and most of the participants lost weight. In another experiment, participants generally felt bloated in the abdomen after taking glucomannan granules for 4 weeks. This is because glucomannan taken before meals swells in the stomach, increasing the feeling of fullness and reducing appetite .

So, the glucomannan in konjac has an appetite suppressant effect, which is very suitable for weight loss. In addition to weight loss, glucomannan is also helpful in controlling cholesterol and blood sugar levels .

However, there are two points to note when eating konjac to lose weight:

1. Eating large amounts of konjac may cause bloating and diarrhea.

2. Since glucomannan has the effect of lowering blood sugar, if you are taking medications or health supplements to regulate blood sugar levels, and at the same time eat a large amount of konjac and reduce your intake of staple foods, you may suffer from hypoglycemia!
