Low blood pressure is common among women. Does it have any impact on health? What should we do?

A friend asked Huazi why he always talked about high blood pressure instead of low blood pressure. Huazi said that because there are many people with high blood pressure and the harm caused by high blood pressure is great, more people need to know about high blood pressure. A friend told Huazi that her blood pressure is low, only 85/65mmHg. What is going on and what impact does it have on health?

Huazi told his friend that low blood pressure is more common in women, especially those with thin bodies. Whether it has an impact on health depends on whether the cause of low blood pressure is physiological or pathological.

1. What is hypotension?

When blood pressure reaches or exceeds 140/90 mmHg, it is considered hypertension. When blood pressure is lower than 90/60 mmHg, it is considered hypotension. Hypotension can be divided into physiological hypotension and pathological hypotension according to the factors causing it.

Physiological hypotension means that although the blood pressure is low, there are no symptoms. This situation belongs to the healthy population, and can be called "immortal physique", because people with low blood pressure have less cardiovascular burden and are less likely to suffer from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Pathological hypotension refers to low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness, palpitations, fatigue, or low blood pressure caused by other diseases.

2. Common factors causing pathological hypotension

Physiological hypotension without symptoms does not require intervention and will not affect health. What we need to pay attention to is pathological hypotension. Most people cannot find the cause of their hypotension, which may be related to genetics or physical constitution, and is called primary hypotension.

Certain diseases can also cause low blood pressure, such as bleeding (traumatic bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, excessive menstruation in women, etc.), diarrhea caused by various reasons, allergies, serious infections, tumors, malnutrition, etc., which can lead to secondary hypotension.

If patients with hypertension take too much antihypertensive drugs, it may also cause hypotension.

3. What kind of hypotension needs treatment?

The symptoms caused by primary hypotension are usually not serious, most of them are occasional and transient symptoms, and generally do not require treatment. People with primary hypotension are mostly thin women, and their hypotension can be significantly improved through exercise, increased nutrition, and improved physical fitness.

People with low blood pressure are prone to postural hypotension. If you suddenly stand up from a lying, sitting or squatting position, you will experience dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations. In severe cases, you may faint and fall. Therefore, people with low blood pressure should get up and move slowly to avoid getting hurt. When low blood pressure occurs, you need to sit or lie down as soon as possible.

Excessive salt intake can induce high blood pressure, so for people with low blood pressure, increasing salt intake and drinking more water can also help raise blood pressure. However, excessive salt intake is not good for the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems, so this method needs to be used with caution. Licorice and ginseng in traditional Chinese medicine also have the effect of raising blood pressure, but they may bring certain side effects and need to be used under the guidance of a doctor.

If it is secondary hypotension, the primary disease needs to be treated. The disease that induces hypotension is usually more serious and cannot be treated by itself, so it needs to be diagnosed and treated by a doctor in time.

In summary, thin people, especially women, are prone to low blood pressure. However, low blood pressure without symptoms will not affect health and does not require intervention. If it is primary low blood pressure without a cause, effective intervention and symptom relief can be achieved through more exercise, increased nutrition, and improved lifestyle.

If low blood pressure does not improve for a long time, or if it is secondary hypertension caused by other diseases, you need to seek help from a doctor. I am pharmacist Huazi, welcome to follow me and share more health knowledge.
