There are 2 to 3 scales in front of the eyes, which are not connected to the frontal scales. There are 2 scales behind the eyes. There are 2 anterior temporal scales. There are 3 posterior temporal scales. There are 9 scales on the upper lip. There are 11 scales on the lower lip. There are 25 to 25 to 19 rows of body scales. There are 233 to 259 ventral scales and 84 to 111 pairs of sublabial scales. The head is brown-yellow, and there are black horizontal stripes from the cheek scales to the upper half of the last two upper lip scales, like black eyebrows. Upper lip and throat yellow. The back is olive-colored with four black vertical stripes, forming a rope-ladder pattern from the neck to the back. There are irregular black spots in longitudinal rows on the front side of the body, which gradually expand into black longitudinal bands in the back half.
