Recently, Huang Chao, a doctoral student born in the 1990s, announced his latest findings on his personal homepage. In November this year, the latest issue of Zoological Studies, an international journal of zoological research, published a research article by Huang Chao and Mao Siying on decapod crustaceans (shrimps and crabs) in Shenzhen mountain streams. While systematically introducing the diversity of decapods in Shenzhen's mountain streams, the article describes a new species named after Shenzhen - Megapleonum shenzhen, filling the research gap in the diversity of large aquatic invertebrates in Shenzhen's mountain streams. Shenzhen Giant Crab As the discoverer, Huang Chao said that the name "Shenzhen Giant Crab" was his suggestion. Since no Shenzhen Giant Crab has been found in subsequent surveys in the mountains around Shenzhen, it is currently believed that this species is endemic to Shenzhen. Huang Chao said: "Biodiversity is not only a region's natural heritage, it is also a treasure trove of genes. For this newly discovered species, the best way to protect it is to avoid human interference." Huang Chao, born in 1991, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University with a bachelor's degree in life sciences and obtained a doctorate from the University of New South Wales in Australia. He is now an independent researcher and freelancer who has been engaged in stream crab research for 10 years. So far, Huang Chao has discovered 28 new species of stream crabs.
