What is going on?

today

Let's talk about it in detail.

How do dark circles form?

The formation of dark circles is related to many reasons, such as dermal melanin deposition, superficial vascular structure, skin sagging, grooves, and edema. Therefore, dark circles are also divided into the following types:

The first is pigmented dark circles, which are caused by an increase in dermal melanocytes and excessive deposition of dermal melanin, and are related to sunlight exposure, drug intake, incomplete makeup removal, pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies, eye surgery and trauma.

The second is vascular dark circles, which are caused by the thin and transparent skin of the eyelids, the lack of subcutaneous fat, and the dermal capillaries and the obviously protruding blue reticular veins under the skin that penetrate the skin. They are particularly obvious during the menstrual period.

The third is structural dark circles. Skin sagging, aging, and edema cause light to form a shadow-like appearance, ultimately forming dark circles.

Dark circles may be related to disease

People usually think that "dark circles" are caused by sleep, but in fact they have little to do with sleep.

Drinking too much water before going to bed and overusing the eyes before going to bed will lead to local blood retention. Lying flat at night is not conducive to blood return and other reasons will cause eyelid edema. Edema will increase skin thickness and increase the diffuse reflectivity of pigment, thereby causing the skin to become darker visually. Due to the obstruction of tissue, dark circles similar to shadows are formed under the light.

Similarly, diseases that can cause local swelling of the eyes, such as hyperthyroidism-related eye diseases, foreign bodies in the eyes, liver and kidney diseases, etc., may cause dark circles. Liver and kidney-related diseases can lead to endocrine disorders, excessive growth of melanocytes, and make dark circles more obvious.

In addition, diseases such as dermatitis, eczema, and allergic rhinitis can cause congestion and edema of tissue mucous membranes, and can also cause symptoms similar to dark circles.

How to treat dark circles?

For dark circles that have already formed, the treatment methods vary according to the different types of dark circles:

For pigmented dark circles, cosmetics, tyrosinase inhibitors, hydroquinone, retinoic acid, chemical peels, lasers, etc. are often used for treatment;

For vascular dark circles, vitamin ointment, sclerosing agent injection, surgery, laser and other means are often used for treatment;

For structural dark circles, treatment includes tissue filling, surgical release and other means.

To sum up, dark circles caused by eye edema can be relieved through more convenient means; for dark circles caused by primary diseases, the primary diseases should be treated; dark circles caused by improper work and rest can be relieved through local massage, hot towels and other means.

How to prevent dark circles?

According to research reports at home and abroad, pigmented dark circles are the most common among Chinese people, so preventing pigmented dark circles is most important.

According to the formation principle of pigmented dark circles, we should reduce pigmentation by reducing sunlight exposure, protecting the skin, removing makeup scientifically, actively massaging the eyes, avoiding excessive use of the eyes, and staying up late.

To prevent structural dark circles, you can take good care of the facial muscles and skin, and perform facial exercises to prevent skin sagging.
