Is adding another magic tool to remove formaldehyde another waste of money?

Formaldehyde, the smell of which makes people turn pale.

According to research, chemical factory workers who are frequently exposed to formaldehyde have a much higher chance of dying from lymphoma and blood cancer than other people; and it has been found that people exposed to formaldehyde have about 2.4 times higher risk of developing leukemia than ordinary people.

In the past year, a formaldehyde removal item has gradually come into people's attention: potassium permanganate alumina balls.

Potassium permanganate aluminum balls utilize the strong oxidizing property of potassium permanganate to oxidize and decompose the reducing harmful gases in the air, thereby achieving the purpose of purifying the air. They have a high removal efficiency for harmful gases such as formaldehyde.

From a chemical perspective, potassium permanganate oxidizes the active groups of organic volatile molecules in the air, such as aldehyde groups, and then reduces itself to lower-valent manganese oxide, causing the color to change.

Potassium permanganate does have the function of oxidizing and decomposing formaldehyde, but the concentration should not be too high when used, because it will harm human health and will also oxidize indoor furniture and damage indoor items, but using too little will not have much effect. Moreover, formaldehyde exists in building materials for a long time and it is impossible to deal with it in a short time.

You can use a professional formaldehyde detector or test kit to measure the formaldehyde concentration in your home and compare it.

Ventilation is the best way to remove formaldehyde and it is also necessary to do so, but ventilation alone is not enough.

CCTV Science and Education Channel conducted an experiment. After ventilation, the indoor formaldehyde content was 0.03mg/m³. After being sealed for twelve hours, the indoor formaldehyde content was 0.11mg/m³.

That is to say, if we close the windows when we sleep, the formaldehyde content in the room will exceed the standard again after one night.

Regarding the various formaldehyde removal methods, we have also conducted formaldehyde removal data experiments on the more common ones: green radish, tea leaves, grapefruit peel, activated carbon, air purifiers, etc.

The results show 👇👇👇

The effects of tea leaves and grapefruit peels are about the same as no effects;

Although the leaves and branches of the green radish can absorb a little formaldehyde, the biggest contributor is actually the soil in the pot;

The adsorption of formaldehyde by activated carbon is mainly physical adsorption, which is not stable; (it is adsorption, not absorption!! Formaldehyde is easy to enter and easy to come out. When the temperature rises, it is easier for activated carbon to hold the adsorbed formaldehyde)

Air purifiers are most effective in purifying formaldehyde in a short period of time.

Sister Ka has something to say💬

It is impossible to completely remove formaldehyde by any method. We can only reduce the formaldehyde content as much as possible to within the national standard, which is basically harmless to the human body. This is the purpose of formaldehyde removal.
