Algolia has released its report, "B2C E-Commerce Site Search Trends to 2024". For B2C companies, powerful search and discovery tools are a critical part of the online experience, playing a key role in delivering the results that businesses and consumers expect. Artificial intelligence is an increasingly important part of this technology mix for companies large and small.

Artificial intelligence becomes more important in search

The majority of IT and business decision makers (64%) are very aware of the importance of AI in their search strategy and how it can impact their business.

AI-driven customer engagement

46% of respondents believe AI-driven interactions will increase significantly in the coming year, followed by special offers, while 18% expect demand for voice search to increase.

Increased demand for different payment methods

More than half of respondents said customers are seeking more diverse payment methods.

Search and discovery are an increasingly important part of the user’s online journey, shaping the shopping experience at key points in the sales funnel.

Third-party search cooperation

Third-party collaboration continues to lead the way in the development of business search capabilities, with 49% of enterprises choosing this approach over internal development or off-the-shelf packages, up slightly from 47% in 2022.

Function-driven search

B2C companies want the ability to search all content sources, followed by personalization (53%) and typo correction (typing error tolerance) (50%).

Revenue, Personalization, and E-Commerce Strategies

Bottom-line issues remain at the heart of the most important business decisions, and research data confirms this fact.

Revenue Growth and Search

49% of companies believe that revenue is an important driver of search, and the majority of companies (61%) are satisfied with the revenue they earn from search.

Personalization as an integral part of e-commerce strategy

70% of respondents said personalizing the online experience is an important part of their e-commerce strategy.

The importance of fast delivery

For respondents, fast delivery (58%) and product recommendations (52%) are the most important factors in customer service and the most relevant areas of customer experience.

The impact of artificial intelligence on product sales

The majority (68%) of companies surveyed have a dedicated sales team, and slightly more than half (52%) plan to implement AI tools to assist salespeople.

64% of respondents plan to hire more salespeople, and 73% plan to invest in development teams to support digital sales strategies.
