As summer approaches, the impact of the coronavirus continues to diminish, with three in five consumers expecting their Memorial Day celebrations will not be impacted by the pandemic in any way.

Memorial Day plans will look different across the country.

While activities such as barbecues and gatherings with family/friends will be on the agenda for about half of celebrants, both will be particularly popular in the Midwest. Northeastern consumers will be more likely to travel or attend/host a party.

Inflation can leave consumers divided over how much they plan to spend.

84% of celebrants expect inflation to have an impact on their Memorial Day purchases. While one-third of consumers expect to keep their holiday spending under $50, more than one-fifth plan to spend more than $100.

Higher prices won't stop consumers from shopping on Memorial Day.

While not everyone will be shopping for Memorial Day, 84% of celebrants do plan to buy something. About three-quarters plan to buy food, and two-fifths will buy alcoholic beverages.

Nearly all shoppers will be in-store on Memorial Day.

Less than 1 in 5 shoppers browse the web to make a purchase.

While nearly a third of people complete their shopping a few days in advance, most plan to stock up a week before holiday festivities. Fifteen percent of shoppers double down and plan to shop more than three weeks in advance.
