[Source] This product is the dried petiole of Trachycarpus fortunei (Hook. f.) H. Wendl., a palm plant of the Arecaceae family. When harvesting palm trees, cut off the lower part of the old petiole and the sheath, remove the fibrous palm hairs, and dry them in the sun.

[Properties] This product is in the shape of long strips, one end is narrower and thicker, the other end is wider and slightly thinner, and the sizes vary. The surface is reddish brown, rough, and has vertical wrinkles; one side has obvious protruding fibers, and both sides of the fibers are covered with many brown hairs. It is hard and tough, not easy to break, and has a fibrous cross-section. Odorless. Light taste.

[Identification] Take 1g of powder, add 20ml of water, heat for 5 minutes, filter and dilute the filtrate with water to 20ml. Take 1 ml of the filtrate and add 2-3 drops of ferric chloride test solution to form a dirty green flocculent precipitate. Take another 1 ml of the filtrate and add 3 drops of sodium chloride gelatin test solution to form a white turbid precipitate.
